IST, an example of environmental and port sustainability

Pollution and global warming are two of the problems facing our planet. Over time, the situation could continue to worsen and become increasingly difficult to solve.

However, there are ongoing initiatives, from both the public and private sectors, aimed at mitigating this situation, which could threaten life on the planet as we know it today.

Intersagunto Terminales, the Grupo Alonso terminal located in the Port of Sagunto, has launched several outstanding initiatives in recent years with the aim of contributing to the sustainability of the planet.

Some of them are as follows:

Installation of solar panels on the terminal’s administrative buildings: In this way, the company will be able to reduce the use of artificial and polluting lighting.
Implementation of cleaner energy supply sources: their use enables a more sustainable operation of the facilities.
Calculation of CO2 emissions (Carbon Footprint): in 2018, it received the “Calculate” and “Reduce” seals from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
Installation of double-twin spreaders: machinery that makes it possible to transport two containers at the same time, streamlining the process, reducing vessel usage time and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
Use of low-emission vehicles: trucks powered by vehicular natural gas are used. This means that each shipment has a very low CO2 emissions rate.
Improved energy efficiency in processes: the integrated management system used by IST since 2017 enables much more efficient energy use. Thanks to this system, the company has received certifications such as ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) seal.

Environmental events

In response to the environmental challenges facing our planet, Intersagunto Terminales has led a series of initiatives in recent years to promote sustainability from the Port of Sagunto.

These actions, which include the installation of solar panels and the adoption of cleaner technologies, among others, reflect a firm commitment to caring for the environment.

This commitment will be further strengthened this 5 June, when Intersagunto Terminales takes part in the activities organised by the APV (Valencia Port Authority) to commemorate World Environment Day, thereby highlighting its ongoing contribution to the protection and preservation of the environment.
