IST, an Example of Environmental and Port Sustainability
Pollution and global warming are two of the most pressing issues facing our planet. Over time, the situation may worsen, making it increasingly difficult to resolve. However, continuous initiatives from both public and private sectors aim to mitigate this situation, which could threaten life on Earth as we know it today.
Intersagunto Terminales, a terminal of Grupo Alonso located in the Port of Sagunto, has implemented significant initiatives in recent years to contribute to the planet's sustainability. Some of these initiatives include:
-
Installation of Solar Panels on Administrative Buildings: This allows the company to reduce the use of artificial and polluting light.
-
Implementation of Cleaner Energy Sources: The use of clean energy enables more sustainable operations.
-
Calculation of CO2 Emissions (Carbon Footprint): In 2018, IST received the “Calculo” and “Reduzco” seals from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
-
Installation of Double-Twin Spreaders: This equipment can transport two containers simultaneously, streamlining the process, reducing ship usage time, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
-
Use of Low-Emission Vehicles: IST uses trucks powered by natural gas, resulting in very low CO2 emissions per shipment.
-
Improvement of Energy Efficiency in Processes: The integrated management system used by IST since 2017 allows for more efficient energy use. As a result, they have received certifications such as ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) seal.
Environmental Events
In response to the environmental challenges our planet faces, Intersagunto Terminales has led various initiatives in recent years to promote sustainability from the Port of Sagunto.
These actions, including the installation of solar panels and the adoption of cleaner technologies, demonstrate a firm commitment to environmental care.
This commitment will be further strengthened on June 5, when Intersagunto Terminales will participate in activities organized by the APV (Valencia Port Authority) to celebrate International Environment Day, highlighting its ongoing contribution to the protection and preservation of the environment.
